The Union of Collectivist Systems, more commonly reffered to as the Collectivist Union or UCS, is an interstellar entity centered around the capital planet Kvirograd in the Milky Way galaxy. The Union controls 25 systems, for a total of 32 inhabitable planets, 79 uninhabitable planets, 76 dwarf planets and over 310 moons. The population of 612,742,248,425, is mostly located in the western fringes of the Union, as the eastern systems have either been only recently colonised or are composed of mostly uninhabitable planets.

Exodus and first steps
As tensions between rival states on Atlas rose and the world was on the brink nuclear devastation, the government of the Union of Socialist Republics of Stasnov forsaw the impending apocalypse, like most nations of the "old world". Project "Sputnik" was launched by the Stasnovan government in the year XXXX. The project saw a massive exodus of Stasnovan colonisers into space, to colonise planets beyond the Solar system that had been deemed colonisable by the Stasnovan secret space programme. The secret Stasnovan exodus fleet was hidden bellow the mountains the large Vechnaya mountain range in Eastern Stasnov, as well as in underwater bases off the north coast and in the Vryzv Sea. The official information stating the exact number of ships have been long lost from the archives of Central Collective of Culture.
When nuclear fired rained from the skies in XXXX, the colonist ships left Atlas, with more than a 30 milion colonisers. Once in open space, the Stasnovan spaceships prepared their experimental and untested warp drives. Their destination was Planet No. 8519, an habitable planet that was discovered by scientists of Project Sputnik two years before. General Dimitri Lebed, commander of the entire exodus, gave a speech to the colonisers onboard the SRNS Soyuz, as well as the ships of the rest of the fleet, 10 minutes before they engaged the warp drives.
Comrades, borthers, sisters, sons and daughters of the Motherland. Today, is the saddest day in the history of our country, as well as the history of the human race as a whole. Today is the day that we are forced to abandon Atlas, our home planet, because of the greed and selfishness of a few people. We leave our loved ones, our friends and families behind, to search for a new home among the distant stars, to continue the lineage of our great nation, and quite possibly the lineage of humanity.
What you were not told when you signed up for this mission, is that the warp drives on our ships are only experimental and have never been tried before. Only simulations have been ran, and the chances of success has been 60% to 80. It is my duty to inform you that the warp drives may suffer a failure and explode, in which case all of the people on the ships will die. It has been my honour to serve our Stasnovan Motherland, and i will continue to serve her until my last breath, be it today, tommorow or years from now. The 10-minute countdown untill launch starts now.
May the Gods have mercy on us.
The warp drives of the SRNS Soyuz exploded after ignition, and the ship was lost with all hands onboard. Three more ships were lost, but most of the ships made the warp jump the Planet No. 8519 successfully. General Georgy Alexeyev, replaced Lebedev as the commander of the exodus. However, existing archives state that four ships had suffered considerable damage, and their warp drives were completely worn out. No casualites from the jump have been documented, however. After spending about a week orbiting the planet, the Stasnovan colonisers dispatched the first landing parties, consisting mostly of heavily armed scouts and armoured vehicles, to secure a safe landing zone.
Colonisation and the Alfa Soviet
Afther several days of setting up outposts, the colonists found out that the planet wasn't so earth-like, after all. The northern hempisphere was extremely cold, while the south hemisphere had more favourable conditions for human settlements, but still had a cold climate. Regardless, the first outposts, and the first colony was established in the northern hemisphere of the planet, as it was the only region that was mapped to a significant level, and protests had began onboard the colonist ships because the scouting/mapping prossess was taking too long. Finally, after 41 days in orbit, the first transport ships of colonists landed on the planet.
Camp Alfa, as it wars first known, was the first camp/colony established, with over 100,000 inhabitants. Several weaks later, it grew to 400,000. More camps were established, such as Camp Vega, Camp Smerch, Camp Ves and so on. The camps later grew into full fledged cities, and the souther hemisphere of the planet was also colonised. The planet was then renamed to "Alfa", and the political entity based on it the "Alfa Soviet"(Soviet meaning council). What was originally a population of roughly 24 milion, had now grown into roughly 1.2 bilion in 80 years.
Several years had passed, and several food shortages had occured. It was then, that young Colonel Alexey Kvirov became popular, with his fiery speeches about a new political, economy and social system, that would "accomodate the increasing population of the Soviet, and expand the remainder of our race across the stars". The 30-year old Kvirov named his ideology "Collectivism", because the governance, administration and management of his projected "new interplanetary Revolutionary Society based on the ideals of Socialism" would be managed by collectives, which he described as "groups of people sharing a common interest or objective". The government of the Alfa Soviet, which was effectively a military junta, quickly discharged Kvirov from the military and tried to arrest him. However, any attempts were thwarted by the massive support he had gained from the populace. The people of the Alfa Soviet were fed up with the bureaucracy, sluggishness and inneffectivness of their government, and thus found hope in Kvirov's Collectivism, and its promises to take the power from the hands of the corrupt oligarchs and return it to the Proletariat.
In the year 93 AE, workers from Mining Complex No. 51, outside Vega City, joind my armed locals, police and soliders, and led by Kvirov himself stormed the administrative building and took over the entirty of the city. City after city fell to the Revolutionaries, and the government found itself unable to respond quickly enough, before the building of the Soviet was under siege itself, a year after the beginning of the Revolution. All members of the Soviet were captured and sentenced to life-long imprisonment by Revolutionary Court, while the Chief of the Militsiya (Police) was found responsible for several atrocities against the populace and was publicly executed.
The next days, Kvirov and his associates set up a provisional government base on the Collectivist ideas. Elections were carried out for the Central Collectives - basically Ministries - which later sent repressentatives to the People's Collectivist Assembly, the legislative branch. The Assembly then elected the Supreme Collective - executive branch - with Kvirov as its leader. The Alfa Soviet was named subsequently to Alfa Collective.
Rapid expansion and establishment of the Collectivist Union
After the new Collectivist state was established on Alfa and the production and economy was stabilised, Kvirov, now the Premier of the Supreme Collective, began organising an expedition into the planets. Over 2 million people too part in expendition, which was known as "Expansion Operation No.1", half of which were soldiers and military personel. The planet - named Planet No. 8521 by the Stasnovan colonisation programme - was described by the colonists as "a planet-sized forest", as its surface was covered by massive foresty areas, ranging from Siberia-like, snow covered forests in the north, to more mediterranean and tropical forests towards the south. Two similar operations followed, with the third (Planet No. 8520 - Vega) and fourth (Planet No. 8523 Lebedgrad) inhabitable planets being colonised, which were the closest to the old earth's climate and geography in the system, though Lebedgrad was covered by a single, unusually large body of water compared to earth.
Bases were also rapidly established system's 6 uninhabitable planets. These worlds could not used as colonies due to their climate not being friendly towards humans, however, mining outposts and facilities were established there, to harvest their natural recources. The Alfa Collective quickly grew to become the Interplanetary Collective. Now each planet had its own Local Collective, that were responsible for organizing the existence of their members rationally: energy distribution, waste collection, and so on. The Local Collectives were elected by the planetary populace, and sent their own repressentatives to the People's Collectivist Assembly.
It was then that the Stasnovan background of the Interplanetary Collective began fainting. The Collectivist government denied the Stasnovan ethnicity, and any ethnicty, and instead promoted "the unity of all mankind under the banner of Collectivism" because of the belief that they were the only humans left in the galaxy. This notion met some resistance from members of the Collectives and the populace, but it was enforced, regardless of the oppossition.
The now 93 year-old Kvirov, prepared for the greatest feat of his rule: the colonisation of a neighbouring stelar system. In the year 152 AE, a massive fleet of over 1,000 ships and 4,000,000 military personnel and colonists was prepared, with Kvirov leading it from the bridge of the Kepka-class cruiser CS Lider. The improved FTL engines worked well, and only one ship took some minor damage from the jump. Kvirov died of old age after the colonisation of the second planet. Alfa, the Collectivist capital planet, was subsequently renamed Kvirograd, while its system - and the Collectivst capital system - was named "Alexeyevsk", in honour of the second leader of the Stasnovan exodus.
Numerous systems were later also colonised, with the population increasing steadily and rapidly, and technology advancing on a fast pace, greatly enhanched by discoveries on the newly colonised planets. In 312 AE, after the fourth system was colonised, the Interplanetary Collective was renamed to Union of Collectivist Systems, more commonly reffered to as the Collectivist Union.
Kesrithi first contact and skirmishes
The expanison of the Collectivist Union continued in a swift and smooth pace, with very little complications. However, in the year 756 AE, the 52nd Scout Flotilla of the Collectivist Navy, that had came out of a FTL jump in a yet uncharted far eastern system, made contact with the first intelligent species the Collectivists met since the exodus almost three millennia ago: the Kesrithi Dominion. The Kesithri are an intelligent, gorilla-like race, but much larger and stronger than regural gorillas found on old earth. The first Collectivist soldiers that got to see a Kesrithi firsthand were greately suprised to see a species that was so similar to those they read about in the books about the "old world". The Kesithri were a pre-FTL race, but had nevertheless developed advanced weaponry and starships. Their soldiers were clad in heavy armour and wielded powerful plasma weaponry.
The 52nd Scout Flotilla of the Vryzv Red Banner Fleet was composed of 30 ships in total: 3 cruisers, 5 destroyers, 5 frigates, 11 corvettes and 6 support ships. The 52nd came out of the FTL jump at 1420 hours Kvirovgrad time, near the ice planet of Kishore, an ice world with two moons, Lalan and Suman. They immedeately stumbled upon a Kesrithi cargo vessel, that was leaving the planet. Read Admiral Gorshkov, commander of the Flotilla, ordered his ships to hold fire, and tried to hail the vessel. However, the Kesrithi ship turned around and quickly left at full speed. It was then that the 52nd Flotilla's sensors spotted a space station orbiting the planet, which was not visible from their position.
Gorshkov contacted the Fleet HQ in the Vryzv system, and he was ordered to maintain his position until further orders. However, the Flotilla's sensors picked up a large number of small ships leaving the planet's atmosphere and heading towards them. They were Taravara-class strike bombers escorted by Dhala-class fighters. The Collectivist vessels, correctly assuming they were a bomber formation, prepared their weapons and defencive systems, and VeK-224K fighters were dispatched to attack them. The VeK-224Ks, being faster than the relatively slow Kesrithi fighters and bombers, reached engagement range before the enemy bombers got in range of the Collectivist capital ships, and started firing their long range missiles. The Kesrithi fired back some moments later, and dozens of fighters from both sides were lost in that initial long-range skirmish. The skirmish then turned into a short-range dogfighting brawl, where the faster and more nimble Collectivist fighters had the advantage. Some Kesrithi bombers did make it through, however, and fired off their torpedoes, before being taken out shortly after by the ships' defences and other Collectivist fighters. The torpedoes caused heavy damage to the Stakan-class corvette K-495, with its FTL engines being destroyed and most of its weaponry out of commission. After 20 minutes of combat, the remaining Kesrithi fighters turned about, disengaged and returned to Kishore. It was the first engagement of the of the Collectivist Armed Forces.
An hour or so later several more Collectivist ships FTL jumped to the system, to reinforce the 52nd. The newly arrived group included repair and utility ships, to tend to the damaged vessels. However, the Kesrithi returned, and in force: more than 150 ships, against the 70 Collectivist vessels. The Collectivist ships tried to hail them, trying to get them to not to attack their damaged vessels while they were being repaired and evacuated. However, the Kesrithi, not knowing the language, ignored the messages. Both sides launched fighters and bombers, and the capital ships moved into position.
The engagement started, with the Collectivist lance batteries tearing through the relatively weak shields of the Kesrithi ships, followed by deadly torpedo barrages. However, the Kesrithi plasma cannon batteries also took a toll on the Collectivist vessels, with many being lost. As things started looking grim for the Collectivists, their sensors picked up more than 200 vessels exiting an FTL jump nearby. 200 Collectivst ships arrived guns blazing, and the remainder of the Kesrithi fleet was wiped out in moments.
The now 250-strong Collectivist force under Admiral Alexey Zaitsev did not leave the system as ordered, though he ordered the damaged ships to be evacuated. Enraged by the uknown enemy attackomg the helpless ships under repair, he ordered the rest of his ships to move forward, towards Kishore. The planet's defences consisted of a small frigate squadron escoted by several corvettes, and a lone civillian space station with what small defences it had, after the annihilation of its defencive fleet. Zaitsev ordered his vessels to attack. The Kesrithi frigates, corvettes and small craft were quickly dispatched, and the Collectivists now focused on the civillian space station. After about 30 minutes, the space station's reactors got hit, and a massive explosion followed.
The Collectivist vessels quickly turned about and FTL jumped to the nearby Kolkhoz System. However, they were forced to leave the Yevgen-class destroyer CN Adamov behind, because its FTL drives were completely destroyed and beyond repair. When Zaitsev returned to Kvirograd after being summoned by the Supreme Collective, he was court martialed for disobeying orders and later executed.
It was later decided by the Supreme Collective to never again send ships the "Hostile System 1", as the Kesrithi system was labeled, for the lack of an actual name.
Kesrithi raids and Kesrithi War
Almost three centuries later, in 1050, almost 800 Kesrithi ships jumped out of hyperspace in the Kolkhoz system. The small number of Collectivist defenders was caught by suprise; the Kesrithi were a pre-FTL civillization, and they couldn't travel between systems. The earth-like planets of the Kolkhoz system had notably fertile lands, and thus the whole system was turned into a massive farm. It was the Union's main source of agricultural products. Regadless of its significance, the Kolkhoz system's defences rather weak, as the Kesrithi couldn't reach it and pose a threat. As it turned out later, after the end of the war, the Kesrithi had captured the Collectivist corvette that was left behind during the first contact skirmishes, and reverse-engineered its engines, giving their fleets FTL capability.
The Kesrithi vessels quickly wiped out the small number of Collectivist defenders, destroyed the civillian and defensive space stations orbiting Kolkhoz 3, and then proceeded to carry out orbital bombardment operations. When the Collectivist reinforcements arrived, it was too late. Kolkhoz 3 was one of the two inhabitable planets in the system, and now 2 of its major cities were reduced to dust. The orbital bomberdment also destryoed much of its production facilities, and huge swaths of crops were burnt. The Kesrithi quickly jumped out of the system.
The damages they left behind were massive. The Collectivist Assembly and the Supreme Collective debated several days on what to do, in order to eliminate the new Kesrithi threat once and for all. Premier Nikita Ulyanov's faction won, and the preparations for Operation Zhukov began. Operation Zhukov was a military campaign that was to be carried out by the Collectivist military, with the aim of forcing the Kesrithi leadership to submit and end their incursion into Collectivist space.
The Vryzv Red Banner Fleet, most powerful Collectivist fleets in the nearby systems, was assembled in the Kolkhoz system, for a total of over 3,800 ships. The Operation's first objective was the invade and secure the ice planet of Kishore. Admiral Kulakov, leader of the fleet and commander of the entire operation, also had rougly 17,000,000 troops at his command; including Ground Forces, Naval Infantry, and Airborne Forces troops. On March 8th 3132 AE, at 0500 hours Kvirovgrad time, the Vryzv Red Banner Fleet FTL jumped into the Kesrithi system.
The fighting started from the very first moments Collectivist ships jumped to the Kesrithi System. The war lasted for six years, and resulted in the death of roughly 37,000,000 on both sides combined. In the duration of the war, seven out of the nine total planets of the system, including the capital planet of Kesrith, were captured by the Collectivist Military. The fighting came to an end in May 1st, 1056 with the Fall of Kesrith.
The war officially ended with the formal declaration of surrender and the 1056 Kishore Accords, that were officially signed by the Kesrithi Samrat (Emperor), Sinha Skitar. As per the Kishore Accords, all Kesrithi FTL technology and FTL drive-equiped ships were either scrapped or confiscated, thusly forcing the Kesrithi back to a pre-FTL time. Another tenet of the Accords was the military occupation of the Kesrithi System by the Collectivist Union for three years. The occupation ended in July 24th, 1959 AE. However, the Collectivist Union still has military precence in the system.
Geography and climate
The Armed Forces of the Collectivist Union, also known as the Armed Forces of the Revolution are a massive organisation that act as the protector of the Union and the enforcer of its will. The Armed Forces consist of the Army, responsible for land warfare, the Navy, responsible for space warfare and planetary invasions, and the Air Force, tasked with the defence of worlds and with providing support to the land fores, and the Airborne Troops (VDV) that consist of elite infantry used for airborne operations. The Navy mantains its own land force contigent, the Naval Infantry, with each vessel having its own detachment of Naval Infantrymen. The Navy also includes the Naval Aviation (AV-MF), which consists of fighters, bombers and other craft onboard the Navy's ships. The Naval Aviation rivals the Air Force in size and quality of equipment. The Air Force also includes the Air Defence Command (PVO) which controls the surface-to-orbit weaponry and missile silos.
The Collectivist Revolutionary Army is the massive land arm of the Union's Armed Forces. The standard operational unit of the CRA is the Division, consisting of several Regiments, Battalions and other support units. Divisions are organised into Armies (each Army generally has 4-5 Divisions) who are in turn - at wartime - organised into Fronts (each Front generally has 4 Divisions). The CRA also has numerous Independent Regiments and Battalions to attach to larger formations in order to provide additional support. The Army also has its own Air Arm, the Army Aviation.
The Collectivist Union is a Single-Party "Collectivist" State, werein the Collectivist Party is the leading force of the Collectivist society and the nucleus of its political system. The Premier is the head of state and the General Secretary of the Collectivist Party is the head of government.
The Collectivist Union’s revolutionary society is organized into collectives, in other words, into groups of people sharing a common interest or objective.
There are two types of collectives:
- Local Collectives manage the common life of entire planets. They are responsible for organizing the existence of their members rationally: energy distribution, waste collection, and so on. These collectives are elected by the local populace. Examples: Kvirovgrod Local Collective, Zavod Local Collective etc.
- The Central Collectives administer a single but particularly complex aspect at Union level: the army or the political direction of the Union, for example. The Central Collectives are elected in a Union-wide election. Examples: Central Collective of Health, Central Collective of Defence etc.
To be elected to a Collective, one must be a member of the the Collectivist Party, must have served his conscription in the Military, and must not have a criminal record.
All collectives, whether local or central, send representatives (the number of repressenatives depends on the size of the collective) to the People's Collectivist Assembly, the legislative branch, the. The bicameral People's Collectivist Assembly, made up of the 30,000-member Higher Assembly and the 20,000-member Lower Assembly, then elects the Supreme Collective (often abbreviated as Vykol, from "Vysshiy Kollektivnyy"), responsible for establishing the Colectivist Union’s major political orientations, and acts as the executive branch of the Collectivist government.
