Zargehestan, officially the Imperial State of Zargehestan (Khaldaian Shahjarian: ܕܸܘܠܸܬܲ ܸܪܡܲܠ݂ ܝܲ ܙܲܪܓܸܗܸܣܬܲܢ, Mehrani Shahjarian: دِولِتَ ِرمَلِ يَ زَرگِهِستَن), is a sovereign Shahjarian island state located in the Mehrani Archipelago. With a land area of 652,864 km² that spans over 182 islands, it is the third largest island nation in the world, behind Indonesia. The islands are completely surrounded by the Sea of Sêlevan and thus the Imperial State shares no land borders nor maritime borders with other sovereign states. Because of this, Zargehestan is a hotspot of biodiversity, with over 85% of the wildlife of Zargehestan not being able to be found anywhere on Earth. The diverse ecosystems and unique wildlife of the archipelago are threatened by the rapidly growing population and rapid industrialization of Zargehestan, leading to efforts to preserve many of the islands wildlife in wildlife sanctuaries.
Formerly, Zargehestan's capital Selahedineabad was the center of the great Merhanid Caliphate who first united the archipelago under Islam in the late 17th century. The Merhanid Caliphate lasted and controlled the unified archipelago for centuries until its eventual downfall during the Khaldaian Revolt in the 1920s to the 1940s. This twenty-year ordeal was known as the Warring States period which left the Zargehestani archipelago fractured in ethnostates of the various religions and cultures that made up the archipelago. In December 1941, the Suraniya Emirate launched an offensive on Selahedineabad, the capital of the Kingdom of Yazidan. The non-Muslim Kingdom fell to the weaker Emirate which led the Emir, Khâlid Baghdâdî Diliciwan to eventually launch a campaign to unite the archipelago under Islam like the Caliphate had once done.
The Selahedinabad Accords were signed in 1942, uniting the Islamic kingdoms in the Mehranid Archipelago under the banner of Emir Diliciwan. This led to a brutal, long campaign that lasted until 1952 when the warring states of the archipelago were finally unified under the Suraniya Emirate. Emir Diliciwan, wanting to consolidate his power over the archipelago, held a coronation in 1952 and declared himself as the Shahanshah (King of Kings) of the Imperial State of Zargehestan. This was the begining of the Diliciwan Dynasty which has ruled the archipelago since unification in 1952.
