The flag of Moku'aina consists of three horizontal stripes of equal width of leilani, maritima and white. A variant of the flag consisting of again a horizontal tricolour of leilani and maritima also exists and is interchangeable with the main ensign. The flag were adopted in 1793 in the midst of the Great Defense however was not officially until after the Declaration of Sovereignity when the primary flag was defined within the constitution as the official flag of Moku'aina whilst the second is regarded as the royal standard banner which holds political significance related to the defense. The banner was originally used during the defense by the armies of House Ta'motunui and Moku'aina in general. Legend has it that the flag was created when prominent royal, later monarch La'akea Ta'motunui was dining with other royal representatives when she heard of the first attack on Moku'aina by the Abernese fleet. Upon hearing the news, La'akea accidentally spilt her wine over the blue and white table cloth, staining two sides, as it was folded one time. La'akea then proceeded to use the cloth as a banner, marching through the streets, gathering support for the retaliation cause. The gold was added later on, after a monarchy had been put in place.
