The Kingdom of Aquidneck or simply Aquidneck (pronounced: /ˈækwɪdˌnɛk/), is a constitutional monarchy located within Western Asura on the planet Aeia. The mainland Kingdom is bordered by the The Kingdom of Midrasia to the North-East, the Arzvan Republic to the North-West, and the United Ksaiist Republic of Carcossica to the West. The Overseas Region of Troping shares a land border with Alydian Republic of Aramas and the Overseas Region of Mayawi shares a maritime border with the Carcosse island territory of Ghagnusutha in the North. The maritime nation has an extensive coastline on the Asur and is heavily involved in shipping, fishing, and ship building.

The Kingdom of Aquidneck is thought by modern scholars to begin in October of 1178 upon the coronation of the Duke of Calimi as King Livino I of the Kingdom of Fossatillo. King Livino proclaimed the Kingdom after his coronation. The majority of what makes up the borders of Aquidneck were brought together under the leadership of King Davide I in 1204. Aquidneck was a colonial power having holdings in Vestrim, Arabekh, and Yidao. Today, Aquidneck is an important player on the world stage, but often remains overshadowed by its more powerful neighbor, Midrasia. The Kingdom is a founding member of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations and the Aeian Public Health Organization.

Etymology

The name "Aquidneck" derives from the Fiorentine word for the region where the Kingdom now sits, Aquinum which, when translated, means water place. Aqui means water, while the necco is thought to be derived from an abbreviated form of "Aquinum ecce eum" which means "Aquinum, behold it". The phrase was believed to be abbreviated to "aquin' eccum". By the end of the Fiorentine Empire the region was being called "Aquineccum". It is unknown exactly when the region started being called Aquinecco, but it is believed to be sometime during the three kingdoms period. The name has stuck with the nation being called Aquinecco in modern Aquidish. In modern Newreyan the /d/ sound comes from a Newreyan folk etymology.
